Goodbye 2014, Hello 2015….

It’s so easy sometimes to get occupied and carried away by all the activities and busyness of the Christmas season that we rarely get the chance to stop and really think back on all that has happened in the year until the year has actually passed. But this year, I thought I should do it differently (well, actually it was Eric’s idea so credit should also go to him).

Looking back, there wasn’t any particular event or moment that stood out more than the rest but despite that, one thing’s for sure….our year has not been any less interesting because of our 2 wonderful, energetic, mischievous, stubborn-at-times but still so adorable little children. It has been a rewarding journey; yet at times also tiring and challenging as parents but we wouldn’t have it any other way because they have brought so much joy to our lives.

Cheryl has grown into this loving, protective big sister who loves playing and mostly teasing her little brother. Like most 4-year olds, she sometimes protests when we ask her to give in to her brother’s demands, yet we’ve been impressed many times by her willingness to step-up and be the responsible older sister. As one who embraces adventure and loves trying out new things, Cheryl has been a positive influence on Darren and a big encourager to him. We’re so proud of her for completing her first year of school and performing her first dance so well in front of a real audience.

Our little boy, Darren is not so little anymore. He’s still a little shy with strangers but once he warms up and gets to know them, he can be the friendliest, most talkative boy. He has excellent listening and understanding skills for his age. He can communicate to us using several words and sentences by now but generally, he still loves listening to himself baby-talk. For several times a day he keeps himself busy by pretending to talk on the phone, dancing, racing his toy cars and playing “masak-masak”. He loves food especially healthy food like vegetables and fruits. Perhaps he can one day be like the masterchef junior on tv and cook amazing gourmet meals for us 😉

As for Eric and I, we’ve both been very busy with our jobs this year. Eric with his ‘real job’ as an engineer, and me in my ‘so-called’ job as a stay-home mom. It’s still real work for me though, just that the rewards come in other forms such as hugs, kisses and laughter. To me these are equally, if not much more fulfilling. Last year, we ended the year with a holiday in Singapore. This year it’ll be a bit different as we’ll be celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary in January and starting the new year with a holiday instead. As the year comes to a close, we’re grateful for everyone who has been a part of our lives and for everything that has taken place this year and we’re looking forward to another exciting journey ahead of us in the year 2015. Thanks for reading and journeying with us all through this year.
